Secret Passageways, Secret Powers

After King Baldwin moved to his new palace near the Tower of David in the western part of Jerusalem, the Templars had sole possession of their massive headquarters. This strongly motivated them to “secure their perimeter” by carefully searching all the buildings and passageways on or under Temple Mount. While they were doing this, many legends tell us the knights acquired secrets and powers that enabled them to quickly rise to a position of tremendous authority and wealth.

Traditionally these secrets and powers have been attributed to discoveries involving Solomon’s Temple, and they covered a wide range of possibilities. The Holy Grail, a miraculous cup said to have held the blood of Jesus and possessed of tremendous powers, was described in many legends. These included King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table—which sometimes are interpreted as being based on the Knights Templar and their round churches.
